Best of Oscars 2016

The Academy Awards is one of the most prestigious Awards in the Entertainment industry. This Sunday Night was all set to embrace you in its red carpet as the 88th Academy Awards or commonly known as “Oscars” were being hosted in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The Oscars 2016 was hosted by actor Chris Rock, who hosted the show for the second time.
The nominations were announced on 14th January 2016 and it took many of us with a storm. We saw Mad Max: Fury Road getting insane 10 nominations but “The Revenant”tops the list in nomination as the “Leonardo DiCaprio” starrer movie got 12 nominations. Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu got back to back nominations for Best Director, Birdman in 2015 and The Revenant in 2016.
The 88th Academy Awards were also very controversial, as people blamed that Oscars are“Anti-Diversity”. There weren’t many people from minorities who got nominated in the Oscars and this thing pissed off many people. For days, there was rage against Oscar nominations, which was trending on Twitter with hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. By the way, the host of Oscar 2016 “Chris Rock” is also a minority and he even took a jive on this by saying “the white People’s Choice awards”.

This is probably one of the most prestigious awards for any Music Director. Like every year, this year was also full of incredible music, which can freeze the time for you, which can take you to a galaxy far far away. Music composers compromise their sleep, their life and their family to achieve the impossible and Academy honors them with the prestigious award.
This year was full of competition, with Legendary Music Director John Williams also in the race with his epic “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” score. The five times Academy Award winner was looking to grab his sixth. 2. Best Animated Feature Film

Animated movies are not just for children, they have a very deeper meaning and they are as powerful as any real time movie. Animations have reached to new heights from past few years and we can clearly see that in movies.
This year the award for “Best Animated Feature Film” was one of the toughest as it saw “Anomalisa” which is a stop-motion comedy-drama film which tells us a story which we will never forget. The list also got “Shaun the Sheep Movie”, it might sound little childish but the story of Shaun and his flock who goes to big city t save their farmer who is suffering from amnesia will definitely melt your heart.

There were many movies in the list but we were all sure that this year award for “Best Animated Movie” will go to heart wrenching and literally full of emotions “Inside Out”. We know how amazing Pixar is when it comes to make animated movie and Inside Out is definitely their top notch movie ever. It tells you a story of “Emotions inside your head”and by the end of the movie you will be in tears.

3. Best Supporting Actress

Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep and Maggie Smith have won this prestigious award. And by the winners you must have understood that how competitive this award can get. Even this year it was a neck to neck fight between the actresses to win the Best Supporting Actress Award. The Queen of all hearts “Kate Winslet” was nominated for the movie Steve Jobs where she absolutely nailed the role.
It isn’t easy to work in a Danny Boyle movie but Kate Winslet did the justice with the role. Rooney Marla, one time “Best Actress Award” nominee was also nominated for the “Best Supporting Actress” for the movie “Carol”. Rachel McAdams was also a big name in the list, she got applause for her high profile role in HBO’s “True Detective” and after that she is her in the list for the movie “Spotlight”. The movie is great and her acting is awesome, both have taken journalism to a cool level.

As we all know that “Best Supporting Actress Award” isn’t easy t get and you never know who is gonna take this year. Alicia Vikander is a 27 year old Swedish actress who has won this year’s “Best Supporting Actress Award” for her role in “The Danish Girl”.

Before we go into the details let me tell you the nominations for this year’s “Best Supporting Actor” Mark Rylance for movie Bridge of Spies directed by Steven Spielberg,Christian Bale for movie The Big Short, Tom Hardy for his epic role in The Revenant, Mark Ruffalo in one of the best movie on Journalism Spotlight and Sylvester Stallone playing Rocky in movie Creed. Now you know that how hard it can get to pick the “Best Supporting Actor”. Each one of them is a legendary actor and has done a legendary role in these movies. Picking one is not justice with rest of them but still only one can be on top spot.

Mark Rylance won the “Best Supporting Actor” award in Oscars 2016 for his mind-blowing acting in “Bridge of Spies”.  He played a role of real-life Russian spy “Rudolf Abel”and I am pretty sure if the real life “Rudolf” had seen him play his role he would have given him a standing ovation.

5. Best Director

The Best Director list is full of big names. It isn’t easy to make a movie and it is definitely not easy to get a nomination for the “Best Director” in Academy Awards. Tom McCarthy who is a decent actor but a great director, he is on the list with his movie “Spotlight”.
The movie is based on newspaper investigation journalist unit which investigates the case of child abuse in the Boston area by Roman Catholic priests. He has made look journalism cool again, maybe after “All the President’s Men”, “Spotlight” is the movie which do justice with the journalism. Don’t worry this time Meryl Streep is not in nomination but still without her the list is full of talent and beauty. The youngest “Best Actress” Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence is also nominated for the movie “Joy” where she played the role of “Joy Mangano” and it is not hard to believe that she ruled the show.

Saoirse Úna Ronan, the 21 year old Irish-American actress got nomination for the movie “Brooklyn”, this was not her first nomination, in 2008 she got nominated for “Best Supporting Actress” for movie “Atonement”.

This year belonged to youngsters, half of the nominated actresses were below 28 and the winner is just 26, The “Best Actress” Award won by Brie Larson for her amazing role in movie “Room”. Her role in 2015 movie “Room” left many critics speechless and gave many award juries an easy choice to pick her.

7. Best Picture

Remember that “The Shawshank Redemption”, “Taxi Driver”, “Vertigo”, “A Clockwork Orange” and “It’s Wonderful Life” never won the Oscar for the “Best Picture”, I know you are surprised that soo great movies have never won the “Best Picture”. Well that’s Academy Awards for you. They are very very tough. Every year many great movies fight to be in the list, but only a few make in the list and only one wins the “Best Pictures”.
This year was also very pack with “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Revenant” and many others. Every movie was a master-piece. “The Big Short” which is directed by Adam McKay is one of the best biographical comedy-drama film, not just the story even cast of the film is epic, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Brad Pitt.
One of the most awaited movie of 2015 was “Bridge of Spies”, this movie got the dynamic duo of “Steven Spielberg in Direction and Tom Hanks in Acting”, everything is epic when we got these two. One of the most awaited Award of the evening. Every year we guess who is gonna win the“Best Actor” Academy Award and in the big talented list of actors we see someone extra ordinary taking the Oscars home. “Jack Nicolson”, “Ben Kingsley”, “Denzel Washington” and “Marlon Brando” have won this prestigious award but there is another side also, “Johnny Depp”, “Tom Cruise”, “Harrison Ford” and “Robert Downey Jr.”have never won an Oscar.
This year four out of five actors have never won an Oscar. Eddie Redmayne is nominated for the second time and this time with more powerful role in “The Danish Girl” where he is playing the role of Lili Elbe, one of the first recipients of “Sex Change Surgery”.
